Lime moped rider, 24, fatally struck by box truck in Brooklyn: ‘It’s devastating’

A 24-year-old woman riding an electric moped was fatally struck by a box truck in Brooklyn, police said Wednesday.  Molly Pearson was riding a Lime rental two-wheeler north on Meeker Ave. in Greenpoint when she was hit by a white Freightliner box truck driver about 11:15 a.m. Nov. 2, police said.  “It’s devastating,” Pearson’s mother said when reached by phone. “We just need privacy right now.”

The driver was going in the same direction as Pearson, but struck her as he turned right onto Skillman Ave.  Pearson was thrown from her scooter, then run over by the truck, officials said. She clung to life for four days before dying at Bellevue Hospital on Saturday.  The 33-year-old driver was not charged, but police continue to investigate the crash.

Pearson worked for years at Albert’s Cafe in Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J. The business posted to its Facebook page Sunday that she “always brought an abundance of energy, joy, and an intoxicating smile.”
