Incident:         Man Arrested for DWI While Driving Commercial Vehicle with Unsecured Cargo 

Location:        Eastbound Long Island Expressway at Exit 58, Islandia 

Date/Time:     Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at approximately 12:50 p.m.  

Suffolk County Police today arrested a Farmingville man for diving while intoxicated after officers observed him driving a commercial vehicle with unsecured cargo. 

Motor Carrier Safety Section Officers Ralph Schneider and Thomas Mutarelli were on the eastbound Long Island Expressway at exit 58 at approximately 12:50 p.m. when they observed a 2000 International roll-off truck with a 12,000-pound excavator unsecured on the rear of the vehicle. 

The officers pulled over the vehicle and upon further investigation, it was determined the driver, Telmo Ferreira, was intoxicated and driving without a commercial driver license. 

Ferreira, 45, of 77 Oaklawn Ave., was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on October 6. 

The vehicle, which is owned by Ferreira, was impounded.
