Basic Child Passenger Safety for Law Enforcement

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, in partnership with the New York State Police, will be offering a FREE 4-hour Child Passenger Safety Basics training to law enforcement officers this June.

Most police officers go their entire career without having received any training on child passenger safety, yet they have some of the best opportunities to spot and correct car seat misuse.  GTSC’s Basic Child Passenger Safety for Law Enforcement is a 4-hour training that provides officers with a basic understanding of car seat safety, including how to recognize common misuse errors, NYS VTL laws that apply to car seats (traffic stops), and how to connect caregivers with resources that can help children in their communities ride safer.

*Please note this is NOT a course to certify officers as CPSTs (nationally certified child passenger safety technicians)*
