The Danger Assessment (DA) – This comprehensive training session will give participants an overview on lethality assessment, the data supporting the accuracy of the DA, how to administer the DA with victims/survivors, the weighted scoring for the DA, the resulting levels of danger and how to conduct safety planning based on the results.
Participants will be eligible for certification in the Danger Assessment at the completion of the session and will receive directions on how to obtain and use the certification.
About the Instructor:
Dr. Jacquelyn Campbell is a Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing with a joint appointment in the JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is known for her research on intimate partner violence (IPV) and health outcomes, including homicide, the Danger Assessment, which helps abused women more accurately assess their risk of homicide, and studies of IPV contributing to health inequities for marginalized women. Her more than 300 articles and seven books, and being PI of or Co-PI of 10 major national research grants, have provided major contributions to nursing and interdisciplinary science and policy in the US and globally.
Richelle Bolyard, MHS, is a Senior Research Project Coordinator with 20 years of experience related to building the evidence base for Danger Assessment and engaging in translational research. She is committed to a victim-centered, systems change approach to the implementation of lethality assessment protocols.
Cost: The cost for the one-day training is free and is provided to attend as part of the Statewide Targeted Reductions in Intimate Partner Violence (STRIVE) initiative through the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services. Accommodations as well as meals and incidentals are not included.
