Traffic Crash Reconstruction
The NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce the availability of a two week Traffic Crash Reconstruction Course. The course is an intensive 10-day training class scheduled in Erie County on June 1-5, 2026, and June 8-12, 2026. The class is designed to prepare law enforcement officers in the concepts and principles of crash reconstruction. The training includes classroom presentation and workshops. Mandatory prerequisites for attending the training are listed below:
Topics include:.
- Speed of vehicles at impact using conservation of momentum.
- Behavior of vehicles in a collision using Newton’s three laws of motion.
- Discussions of commercial vehicle and motorcycle dynamics in collisions.
- Time Distance Analysis.
- Vehicle behavior in collisions.
Prerequisite: You must have completed one of the following courses
- NYS DCJS Technical Crash Management Course
- Northwester Crash Investigation 2
- IPTM Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation

- Erie County - June 1-5 and June 8-12, 2026
Cost:
There is no registration fee. Travel costs including meals, hotels, and transportation will be the responsibility of the attendee. This course was made possible through Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) funding
Pre-Registration is required. All interested parties must register at least two weeks prior to the course as seats are limited. The location of training and class times will be provided through an email confirmation.
