IPTM Traffic Crash Reconstruction Course - Oneida County

The NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce the availability of a University of North Florida Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) Traffic Crash Reconstruction Course. The course is an intensive 10-day training class scheduled in Oneida County June 10-14, 2024, and June 17-21, 2024. The class is designed to prepare law enforcement officers in the concepts and principles of crash reconstruction. The training includes classroom presentation and workshops. Mandatory prerequisites for attending the training are listed below:

Topics include:

  • Derivation and origin of the commonly used speed formulas.
  • Speed of vehicles at impact using conservation of linear momentum.
  • Behavior of vehicles in a collision using Newton’s three laws of motion.
  • Discussions of commercial vehicle and motorcycle dynamics in collisions.
  • The determination of direction of travel, initial contact and position of vehicles on the roadway.


  • Successful completion of IPTM Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation Course


  • NYS DCJS Technical Crash Management Course


  • Oneida County - N.Y.


  • There is no registration fee. Travel costs including meals, hotels, and transportation will be the responsibility of the attendee. This course was made possible through Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) funding.

Important Safety Measures

Pre-Registration is required. All interested parties must register at least two weeks before the course as seats are limited. The location of training, class times, and safety guidelines will be provided through an email confirmation; those who do not register will not receive this important notification and will not be admitted to the training. Walk-ins and transferring of confirmation notices will not be permitted.

Seating is limited. Therefore, you must receive a confirmation of attendance. Please complete the course application and have it sent no later than three weeks before the start of the course
