IPTM Commercial Vehicle Crash Investigation - Level 1 Course

The NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services and New York State Police are pleased to announce the availability of limited seating in a University of North Florida Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) Commercial Vehicle Crash Investigation - Level 1 Course. The course is an intensive five-day training class scheduled in Albany County June 17-21, 2024. The class will cover the unique characteristics of commercial motor vehicles and the special dynamics at play when one is involved in a collision. The training includes classroom presentation and workshops. Mandatory prerequisites for attending the training are listed below:

Topics include:

  • Tractor trailer nomenclature
  • Brake systems: configuration and operation
  • Wheels, rims and tires
  • Steering suspensions and frames
  • Trailer Coupling devices – fifth wheels
  • Driver concerns – logbooks
  • Vehicle components
  • Center of mass determinations
  • Skid mark measurements and speed analysis
  • Jackknifing
  • Rollover
  • Vehicle dynamics in braking
  • Weight Shifting

Prerequisite: Successful completion of IPTM Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation Course OR NYS DCJS Technical Crash Management Course

Location: Albany County June 17-21, 2024

Cost: There is no registration fee. Travel costs including meals, hotels, and transportation will be the responsibility of the attendee.
