Implicit Bias Train the Trainer - Madison County
OPEN SEATS
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce a training course in Implicit Bias. This training will be delivered in a Train the Trainer format that will enable attendees to instruct principled policing trainings for personnel in their respective agencies.
This training is being offered in a Train the Trainer format and is intended to be a companion course to the PJ 1&2 and will serve as an integral part of our Principled Policing Curriculum. All instructors have extensive experience in delivering this material.
Implicit Bias: The goal of this course is to engage police officers in critical thought and discussion about contemporary mechanisms of bias regarding race, gender, sexuality, and other identities within the context of law enforcement, centering on identity traps and drawing on the scholarship of implicit bias and self-threats. Identity traps allow us to foreground the importance of the situation in predicting outcomes, and to move away from the framing of the problem of race in policing as one of prejudice. We will also pay attention to the underlying historical elements of identity traps and the implications they have for officers lived realities.
During this three-day (24 hour) training event, participants will learn the tenets, and gain a deeper understanding of the core concepts, of Implicit Bias, and build better relationships within the communities that they serve. The three-day training event will follow a train-the-trainer model, allowing local criminal justice agencies to train their own staff locally on a timeline that suits their own needs.
