TITLE of POSITION: NYSACOP Liaison to DCJS / Training Coordinator

The New York State Association of Chiefs of Police, in partnership with NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services, is excited to announce, the new position NYSACOP Liaison to DCJS / Training Coordinator.

This position is grant funded by NYS DCJS and will work directly for the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police.

The employee will report to the Executive Director of NYSACOP for duties and responsibilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 15 years of experience in law enforcement as a sworn member of a state, county or local agency within New York State, with a minimum of five years of progressive responsibility at the senior management level (Lieutenant or equivalent and above). A broad array of experience in both law enforcement operations and administration is required. Candidates must have a strong background with contemporary law enforcement practices, organizational management systems, evidence-based strategies and the field of crime and intelligence analysis. Candidates must also possess experience with multi-agency project management and law enforcement program development. Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships across the law enforcement and criminal justice community.

  • The preferred candidate will also have demonstrated experience in the following areas: evidence-based and data-driven policing and its implementation at the operational level; coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies on crime fighting and reduction programs; implementation of MPTC-approved law enforcement training, including coordinating and/or delivering training at agency and/or academy levels; experience with law enforcement agency accreditation; and familiarity with other programs delivered by DCJS (i.e., Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) program).

NYSACOP Liaison to DCJS / Training Coordinator deliverables:

  • Participate in regular meetings with DCJS staff, either in-person or virtually, to facilitate the cross sharing of information and collaboration between the Association and DCJS.

  • Attend Municipal Police Training Council and Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Council meetings, in-person or virtually.

  • Serve as a liaison of the Association to identify subject matter experts within membership to assist DCJS in the development and implementation of programs and model policies.

  • Communicate the training needs of the Association’s membership to DCJS.

  • Coordinate with DCJS staff to develop and offer executive level leadership training opportunities.

  • Collaborate with DCJS staff when developing Association publications to include relevant articles that inform membership about DCJS initiatives and programs.

  • Enroll DCJS staff in Association newsletter publications.

  • Disseminate among Association membership DCJS related materials such as surveys, training announcements, and program initiatives to facilitate collaboration with DCJS.

  • Coordinate and develop training for the Association including the annual conference, executive development school, and leadership summit.

  • Complete other work at the direction of the Executive Director of NYSACOP.
